Kupol Gallery presents the exhibition of Alexander Lozovoy "Torii. The Way to Fujiima". In this series of works the artist refers to the most recognizable images and motifs of Japanese culture: on his canvases the viewer sees geisha with umbrellas, samurai with faces-masks and grimaces of Kabuki theater, the sacred Shinto gate torii and Mount Fujiima, the symbol of Japan.

The painter Alexander Lozovoy is particularly interested in painting technique and experiments with its possible variations, giving the effect of animating the surface of the canvas. The artist applies bright contrasting colors in impasto technique - a thick layer forming a relief - or pours liquid paint on the canvas, allowing them to form unique textures. 

The artist's brush directs the movement of the paint, which forms natural, chaotic textures and begins to live on the canvas.  Alexander Lozovoy's painting style fits perfectly with the culture of Japan, where both evocative emotionality and zen-like contemplation of the uncontrollable and unrepeatable find their expression.

The Kupol Gallery presents works by Rustam Khamdamov from private collections of collectors. The exhibition includes paintings, graphics and objects of decorative and applied art. Rustam Khamdamov turns to several images that have become key to his works and realizes them in his unique author's manner. They are characterized by the magic of color combinations, the beauty of women's faces and silhouettes, clothes shimmering with precious stones, and national elements of clothing: kokoshniks, slippers, jewelry. The artist's work can always be guessed by a single stroke, by mysterious and meditative images, which seem to disappear from the viewer in a colorful haze. Presented at the exhibition series of works allow the viewer to plunge into the mysterious worlds of Rustam Khamdamov.

Kupol Gallery presents the À la Russe exhibition by Vadim Tishin. The artist adopts the tradition of work and love for the national style and shows Russia as a mixture of ancient traditions, aristocracy, sophistication and spiritual richness. His work abounds with vivid colors, intricate ornamentation, strong folkloric influences, and incredible costume styles.

In his sketches and works of the Call series, Tishin also often refers to images of ancient Russian fairy tales and motifs of the life of the Russian man of pre-Petrine times. They are filled with vegetation inherent to the Russian countryside: sunflowers, thistles and daisies bloom and streak across the paper, leaving their visual mark. Tishin works with a wide variety of media: fabrics, graphics, sketches, decorations, ceramics, jewelry, and dresses appear as unique art objects.

Sergei Diaghilev and his Russian Seasons is one of the artist's reference points. Combining, on the one hand, the oriental, pagan and European antiquity-related exoticism and, on the other hand, sharp, radical experimentation, Russian ballet was something unpredictable, demonstratively changing forms, dangerously provocative and unrestrainedly lively. Hypnotic orientalism, colorful Slavic antiquities, the mystique of the buffoonery and mask theater became for the West an expression of Russia itself. Creating the Russian Seasons, Sergei Diaghilev, with his passion for innovation, attracted not only Russian avant-garde artists - Natalia Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Naum Gabo, Antoine Pevzner - but also leading European artists - Pablo Picasso, André Derain, Henri Matisse - to work as set designers. Therefore, in the series "Theater", inspired by Sergei Diaghilev, Vadim Tishin also turns to other representatives of the XX century, playing on their work with the great maestro.

The works presented in the À la Russe exhibition are linked by the common inspiration found in traditional textures and materials, in the work of Russian artists, in the worldview of aristocrats, in the patterns and yarns kept in wooden Russian huts.

Timofey Caraffa-Corboot has created a unique concept of painting and called it ARTLESS, which means "unsophisticated”. The artist consciously returns the viewer to the two-dimensional world of the archetypal worldview based on several beginnings: early childhood, early Christianity, and the primitive world. Like primitivist artists, Caraffa-Corboot turns to images of exotic animals, characters from children's fairy tales and ethnic groups in the early stages of civilizations. At first glance, the strongest affinity of Caraffa-Corboot's work can be traced in his connections with Henri Rousseau. Like the great French artist, Timofey Caraffa-Corboot pursues the goal of conveying the naive naturalism of objects of real life in his paintings. The dramatic effect of the paintings is achieved by the special central location of the main characters in the paintings in their confrontation or meditative observation of the life of wild animals. Timofey's works are based on his childhood memories and his own drawings as a child. Timofey Caraffa-Corboot consciously uses the artistic forms of children's drawings, folk art, rock art, exotic cultures, devoid of sociality and politics.

The Caraffa-Corboots technique was born out of a combination of two archetypal images--the cave paintings of primitive people and the catacomb art of early Christians. These sources of inspiration are united by a powerful spatial symbol, the cave, a place of solitude, safe shelter, early development, sensual mystery and the preservation of life. Color is the one thing that cannot be abandoned, and it is through color that we are able to look at archetypal images of saints and mythical animals through the lens of children's discourse. The intuitiveness and awkwardness of the pseudo-children's search for primary archetypes is replaced by the mathematical calculation of each stroke of the artist.

The works on view at the Anthropos exhibition were created after 2008, when the artist came to his ARTLESS authorial style. At first glance, the paintings offered for viewing can be divided into two large areas - the depiction of saints and drawings of animals. But this division is deceptive, because the zoomorphic images resonate with the images of biblical characters in the exhibition space. The logic of the exhibition's narrative suggests that we start from the images of Adam and Eve and the animals surrounding them in the Garden of Eden. Then follow the fall of man into the realm of temptation and find ourselves in a space of struggle between good and evil, filled with images of frightening animals fighting each other for existence. Expressive images of wild beasts are complemented by the faces of saints, just as in the Bible suffering is balanced by humility.

The Kupol Gallery presents Valery Kharitonov's Self-Knowledge exhibition. Valery Kharitonov's work reveals the innermost secrets of ancient Russian iconography and the deep connection between artists of the West and the East. Without repeating the frescoes of Dionysius, the Novgorod, Pskov and Suzdal icons, the artist shows the connection of his works with the searches and inspirations of his spiritual predecessors and teachers.

Valery has developed a pictorial language that cannot be confused with the handwriting of other contemporaries. He manages to create compositions that attract the viewer not only by their formal originality, but also by the subtlest spiritual mood. The artist has the same sense of color and composition, techniques of academic painting and graphics. He works with historical, mythological and religious images. Instead of chasing after spectacular views Kharitonov turns to profound, sacred themes. His images literally peel off the canvas, leaving the space of the painting and penetrating the world of the viewer. "Ethereal bodies," existing in the breath of the colors, come through in the lines and manifest the mood in color.

Valery Kharitonov has the ability to see and reinterpret biblical texts. Each of his works is aimed at self-knowledge, analysis of emotions and feelings. Like the artist Alexander Ivanov, Valery Kharitonov has the idea of artistic messianism, which turned his life into a special path. 

Religion organically intertwines the sacred and the sacred - and Kharitonov masterfully manages to combine national consciousness and biblical subjects. An appeal to the origins and realities of national culture has become more relevant in recent years than ever before: it is one of the pillars of the country's spiritual revival and an opportunity to tell about his time in an allegorical form. This energy, embedded in the work, allows the works to live for centuries. 

Valery Kharitonov's works represented at the Self-Knowledge exhibition are in the collections of Alexander Vashchenko and Ivan Kardashidi, who are in love with the artist's work.

Kupol Gallery presents an exhibition by Evgeny Lizunov dedicated to Tarot cards. 

Yevgeny Lizunov's interest in the history of Secret Societies and their influence on culture led to the desire to illustrate the book by Vladimir Shmakov "The Absolute Beginning of the Synthetic Philosophy of Esotericism". With the advent of the period of self-isolation the artist had the opportunity to realize the idea and create illustrations to the exact description of the author - the result of a month of concentrated work was the Tarot deck, released on the basis of this work for the first time in 105 years. The publications in the network aroused interest in the work, which led to the acquaintance of those, who were ready to translate Vladimir Shmakov into English - in March 2022 the first English translation of the book, complete with the artist's illustrations, was published in Great Britain.

Following the tradition of Shmakov, the artist understands the Tarot as a philosophy, not as a divination system. He compares each work - both painting and drawing - with the letter that makes up the word: how the viewer will put words into letters and use them will affect how they will manifest in his life - all depends on the inner aspiration for self-knowledge. "The word that makes up our lives is the word that defines us," says the artist. In perceiving Evgeny Lizunov's work, the viewer should pay attention to himself, to the thoughts that arise when he refers to the arcana, and to whom he associates himself with within the picture.

Kupol Gallery presents Atropos exhibition by Katerina Lime Blossom. The Greek word “atropos”, chosen as the name, in translation means inevitability, steadily approaching the future, and refers to the archetypal image found in most cultures. Directly in mythology - one of the moira, spinning the thread of human destiny, the moira of the future, cutting the thread of life with scissors. However, the thread inevitably breaks ... and is continuously renewed.

At the time of the creation of the works (2018 - 2022), the canvases were a study of experiencing the qualities of time and coexistence. At each moment of time, an infinite number of options for events are available, but in the visible reality, as a result of the interweaving of different impulses and under the influence of various forces, the observed rhythm of events appears. The fabric acts as a metaphor for infinity, on which the series of events appears as embroidery. The imperfection of the interlacing of fabric fibers, the surface of suede and the stitches of threads subtly shows the artist's indifference to the beauty of imperfections, testifying to life itself, and the desire to show the naturalness of things.

Now, by linking the events before, during and after the creation of the works and having the opportunity to look at what is happening more widely, the artist understands that the result of the study is a much wider area. The works show multidimensionality, repetition, inevitability and irreversibility of co-existence, the way of living the burden of corporality and physicality, the area of ​​“female doing” and a kind of rituality are also touched upon.

The work is complemented by the tension of the threads under the weight of the stones. Stones act as a metaphor for memory and a keeper of information, similar to cities and houses. All stones are from mountain rivers, they remind of the power of soft flowing water that brought them from glaciers. Water, in turn, is a natural course of events, it flows and changes, and the river is a continuous transformation and change. The river is like red threads of life, threads of time and threads of fate.

The exposition combines man-made and natural forms, referring to the unity of the material and the spiritual. The variety of textures and sizes, density and lightness add up to the multidimensionality of human manifestation.

The artist was born in 1983 and has been fascinated by fine art since childhood, later graduating from the Dargomyzhsky College of Arts in Tula, Department of Painting.

Sergey Ratchin's works are characterized by their melancholic nature, as if they stop time: the characters, objects and landscapes depicted on them are frozen in the moment captured by the artist. Sergey Ratchin creates art that is impossible not to feel: fleeting moments of life, reflected in his paintings, have an almost imperceptible charm - the viewer becomes a participant in the work, when viewing the works mentally transported into the space of the canvas, indulging in recalling old memories or images.

Sergei Ratchin's works are often exhibited in Moscow, they are kept in museums and galleries in Russia as well as in individual collections.

Every day under the influence of impressions and memories we experience a whole range of emotions, they skillfully control us: when we feel joy - we become more responsive, sorrow - makes us be more circumspect, love - gives a feeling of flight. The Kupol Gallery curatorial team chose different ways to capture them as the main theme. Artist Dmitry Sukhov was invited to carry out the idea with an exploratory story of human relationships expressed on canvas. 

The title of the exhibition - Reminiscence of feelings - is due to the reference to the events of the past, the phantom imprint of emotions. As applied to feelings, it is a retrospective of a reflective consciousness. The concept of the exhibition is reflected in the title of the works "Confusion", "Passion", "Love", "Separation", "Immersion", "Thoughts", "Weightlessness" - and in the compositional division of space into symbolic "portals". The exhibition was conceived as a holistic organism, where the exhibition space is a continuation of the paintings and supports the general idea of immersing the viewer in the emotional background of each individual work.

In search of inspiration, artists have often turned to the East, to its versatility of textures, variety of colors. And not for nothing, because the combination of saturated colors and their depth can reveal a completely new vision. 

With New Orientalism project the Kupol Gallery aims to show contemporary photography, which goes back to the traditions of Orientalists. Vladimir Klavikho-Telepnev explores the Orient, which is associated with his travels in the region, and, inspired by its themes, creates a series of works of reflection on the wisdom and beauty of the Orient. Using modern technology, like Vereshchagin and Engres, the photographer turns to ornaments, uses recognizable images of architecture, fruits, fabrics and colors, emphasizing the color of Eastern countries.

Diana Guledani's About Love exhibition opened at the Kupol Gallery, dedicated to the awe-inspiring relationship between people and more to the man himself. 

The Male/Female series presented in the exhibition is first and foremost a conversation about man, and the exhibit is about the reverent expression of man through love. This series is about the fragility of feelings, about the first touches, about the excitement before a meeting. Diana Guledani's photos depict touching moments that occur between two people: the first contact and the first touch, the trembling of a caressing treatment and tenderness of a glance, all the things which excite the soul and remain in memory forever. The world of two separate from each other seamlessly becomes the world of two.

Kupol Gallery and Arts Square Gallery presented a joint project, the Monochrome exhibition of Yuri Cooper, which will be held in St. Petersburg from June 1 to 25. The exhibition includes works from recent years, as well as works that were presented by Kupol Gallery at the Experiments exhibition-essay at the State Museum and ROSIZO Exhibition Center, which was held in February of this year.

Yuri Cooper is one of the most important contemporary Russian artists who have gained recognition in the West. The artist works in different genres and techniques, including painting, drawing, theatrical scenery, book illustrations, as well as poetry and prose. Yuri Cooper's works are characterized by pure interaction with the material used. When creating his works Cooper purposely uses old wooden surfaces, whose natural pattern itself prompts the contours and colors of the future painting. The faded, grayish hues of the canvases are sustained by the unchanging color palette to which Cooper has been faithful for many decades. Smoky images, now disappearing, now appearing on the surface, create the atmosphere of a mysterious and mystical world that eludes the inquisitive eye.
